My Visit with Savvy Shields — Miss Arkansas’s Outstanding Teen 2009!

As some of you know, in Orlando, all of us teen girls became very close friends!  There were a few in particular who I know I will be friends with for life.  Savvy Shields, Miss Arkansas OT, is one of them!  We have similar personalities and both have a strong foundation in our faith.  For these reasons, and more, I am proud to call her one of my best friends!  I was so privileged to be able to visit her lovely town and perform at her local pageant, Miss Heart of the Ozarks!  While there, the production was so much fun!  They sang songs (even to introduce the judges), performed dances, and even came out into the audience to perform for a bit!  I performed a song before the show began in “pre-show”, and “14G” later on that night!  Afterwards, we went out to Denny’s where I chatted with all of Savvy’s friends!  I was so blessed to be in attendance and loved seeing my best friend again!

There She Is…Miss America!

This past weekend was Miss America 2010!  I am left with one question: where to begin??  This week was an amazing time where I was honored to experience what this program is all about!

I arrived on Wednesday afternoon to beautiful Las Vegas for the first time!  My mom and I shared adjoining rooms with Miss Arkansas Teen, Savvy Shields, and he mom.  As we waited for them we went upstairs to get our badges for the week.  I recognized our former bodyguard, Lewis, with a girl going to brekfastwhose back was to me.  As she turned around I realized it was none other than Katie Stam!! That was only the first of a plethora of exciting events to come about!  After getting checked in we got ready for a photo shoot with Tony Bowls, and a television filming for a product called The Diva.  Meeting with “Sully”, one of the marketers for this product was awesome – we had a blast!  After that I was off to the second Preliminary Night where Tara would perform her amazing talent!

IMG_1529-1 On Thursday, the Teens practiced for their performance that night on the Miss America stage!  I was selected to sing the “Hoedown Throwdown” by Miley Cyrus with a few others while all of the girls danced to it!  That night, when we walked backstage where I saw none other Clinton Kelly from What Not to Wear!  The best part was that before going onstage I got to see Tara while she was lining up for her OnStage Question!  The performance went well and it was so invigorating to perform on that stage! IMG_1561

On Friday, all of the Teens geared up for an event planned by Miss Nevada’s OT, Jordan Ortis!  We were able to visit a CMN Hospital and visit with some children there!! After that, we stopped by the Las Vegas sign and the Eiffel Tower next to The Paris!  Jordan did a great job coordinating this event!  That night was ours free so Savvy and I went to see “The O” by Cirque de Soleil with our moms and her grandparents.  This show was absolutely amazing!!

Finally Saturday arrived!!  That morning I got to meet Gretchen Carlson, a IMG_1614former Miss America and a current anchor on Fox and Friends!  After browsing through the trade show and modeling beautiful gowns we started getting ready for the Final Night!  The atmosphere was indescribable and exhilarating!  Every girl on the stage had done a fabulous job of presenting herself and there was tension in the air as the top 15 was called.  The craziest part was when the television feed “cut” to Clinton and the producers did not allow us to see the “secret voting surprise” that Clinton revealed to the viewers.  We anxiously awaited the crowning!  Congratulations to the new Miss America 2010, Caressa Cameron!  She certainly did a fabulous job presenting herself and I look forward to following her journey this year!savvy tara lauren

A big Congratulations to Tara Osseck, Miss Missouri!  She was a top ten finalist for the Quality of Life Award — the first Miss Missouri to be a finalist in several years!  Tara is a terrific Miss Missouri and I know that she will continue to make a difference in these final months!  I am so proud to call her my “older sister.”  Experiencing Miss America 2010 was an opportunity I will never forget – I am so honored that I got to be involved in it!

Lake of the Ozarks Pageant

Last Saturday I was privileged to attend and perform at the Miss Lake of the Ozarks Pageant!  As many of you know, Tara Osseck, Miss Missouri, was Miss Lake of the Ozarks 2009!  On Friday we had rehearsal and learned the opening number.  Saturday we had interviews- everyone looked so professional!  The time flew by and before I knew it the production was starting.  I had a wonderful time performing and helping emcee!  I loved watching Tara perform her talent for Miss America!  It was superb and I am so proud to call her our state representative!  I had a fantastic time at this pageant and look forward to the other ones that are to come!  Congratulations to Taylor Dean, Miss Lake of the Ozarks Outstanding Teen 2010, and Sydnee Friar, Miss Lake of the Ozarks 2010!  Everyone there looked radiant and I was elated that I could be apart of it!

Dance-A-Thon at Mizzou!

On Saturday I was up in Columbia again for a Dance-A-Thon forIMG_5714 Children’s Miracle Network!  I was unfamiliar with what a Dance-A-Thon was, and didn’t know what the day would entail, but the event this past weekend has proven to be one of my favorites!  To fill you in, this Dance-A-Thon is a major way to fundraise for CMN!  Different teams raise at minimum $200 to IMG_5712participate, some raise as much as $1,000! Then, on the Dance-A-Thon day, they meet and stand for 8 hours straight.  The idea is that they are standing for the kids who cannot.  During this time, they have food and activities!  Activities ranging from different themed dress-up hours, to group air guitar contests, and they even had Zumba instructors come in to teach aerobics for 20 minutes!  Some children even got to comeIMG_5722 and participate and were honored as well!  While there, I helped judge the air guitar contest and sang Taylor the Latte Boy!  I also got to pose for a picture with Alex, a 3 year old who can play a blow up guitar like no one I’ve ever seen!  Unfortunately, I could only be there for 4 hours due to traveling, and my feet were still killing me!  It was so encouraging to see these college students making a difference for children!  If there is ever a Dance-A-Thon near you, be sure to attend!

CMN Columbia Hospital Gala

This past weekend I was up in Columbia for the Children’s Miracle Network Gala!  I got to be there with Miss Missouri 2010, Tara Osseck, which wasIMG_5700 a real treat!!  Because I have already worked with the Children’s Hospital  in Columbia, I felt right at home!  This event was put on to support not only Children’s Miracle Network, but the new Children and Women’s Hospital they are currently building in Columbia!  Even though it won’t be ready for a couple more years I can’t wait to see the finished product!  While there, we were able to see some of the equipment they use to help children, and the plans for the new hospital!  Tara and I also got to mingle with some of the guests, some of the Miss Missouri Board, and some children as well!  We had a great time at the dinner as well.  The best part of the night was seeing the children in attendance walk down the ‘red carpet” to be recognized!  I will have updates about how much was raised pictures soon!

One Year Gone – Miss Gateway St. Louis

IMG_5637

This Miss Gateway Pageant this past weekend was bittersweet.  I am so thankful for all of the friendships made throughout this year!  It’s crazy to think that one year ago I entered this program, and amazing to see everything accomplished and the lessons learned.  I was truly blessed to be a Gateway Girl and am glad to have an everlasting bond with the Gateway Board.  The pageant went very smoothly!  We all had a lot of fun learning the dance routines and saying our farewells.  There were definitely even more memories made that night.  I love my Gateway sisters, Ashley Heath, Lindsey Rich, and Courtney Thormure!  Congratulations to the new Miss Gateway St. Louis OT, Shelby Steingraeber, Miss Gateway to the West OT, McKensie Garber, Miss Gateway St. Louis, Erika Hebron, and Miss Gateway to the West, Katy Reed!  You have an amazing year ahead of you!

Meeting With Mr. Sam Haskell

Recently, I was so privileged to meet with Mr. Sam Haskell, the President of Miss America! IMG_5359 On Wednesday, we drove up to Mexico, Missouri to greet him and others!  During the dinner, Mr. Haskell shared a great story of his past and how you should never stop believing and dreaming.  He continued to make valid points and, later signed his book, Promises I Made My Mother.  It was such an honor to meet such a humble and gracious man!  He is an inspiration to many and with good reason!  While there, I was fortunate enough to visit with Miss Missouri, Tara Osseck, as well as Miss MO IMG_5361contestants Mary Bauer and Amanda Williams.  In addition to the contestants, I got to share with many about my time in Orlando at MAOT, and visit with friends!   Thank you Mr. Haskell, for visiting Mexico and taking time to be a great teacher to us all!

May the Lord Richly Bless You,

Lauren McCreight, Miss Missouri Outstanding Teen 2009

Miss Springfield Pageant!

Saturday, September 19th, I participated in the Miss Springfield/Miss Branson/Miss Queen City Pageant!  I arrived early and helped with the Little Miss Pageant – congrats to all the Little Misses, you all looked fabulous!  The lovely Misses started arriving and quickly began interviews.  While there, I got to visit with pageant directors Susan Fiedler, Pam Richter, and Ed Smith!  I also got to see Brittney Sears, the former Miss Branson OT, Darbi Fuhrman, Miss Springfield OT, and the former Miss Queens!  It was so great to see them all again!  All of the ladies did a fantastic job and I felt honored to be apart of the production when I sang “The Girl in 14G”!  Thanks for having me, Springfield and a huge congratulations to the new Miss Springfield, Jessica Sullivan, Miss Branson, Jeni Dixon, and Miss Queen City, Audrey Buxton!

Make A Wish Bike Ride

As previously shared, August 29th was the rescheduled day for the Make a Wish Foundation’s Bike Ride for Wishes!  It was so great to be back with the Make a Wish team and we were very blessed to have a perfectly clearIMG_5294, sunny day!  The success was unbelievable compared to the rainy day in July. I was able to chat with many bikers, all riding for the cause!  For those not aware, Make a Wish Foundation is an organization that provides wishes for children, and often for the whole family as well, that are illWe passed out the much needed water bottles, assisted with check in, and I even got to pretend to ride a bike!  At the opening, I sang our National Anthem! IMG_5307 Because there was not a flag in sight, we all looked to one of the riders flag patterned bandana!  What a great morning with people who truly care about making a difference! Thanks for having me, Make a Wish, and thank you for all you do!

God Bless

Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2010!

At the beginning of the week I had expectations for what these next 10 days would be like.  However, this event far exceeded anything I could have imagined.  To give you a typical day, all fifty-two girls would be up at 5:30 or 6:00 at the latest to get ready for the day and eat breakfast.  After breakfast, we would make our way to rehearsal, which would last until 5:00.  Then that night we would have some sort of an event that would probably last until about 11 sometimes later.  The next day, the cycle would repeat. IMG_5107 If getting up that early wasn’t hard enough, the eight-hour rehearsals were, and if those weren’t challenging enough, going to an event after that was, but despite all of those things being challenging, the hardest part was getting up the next day and doing the exact same thing.

Although the first paragraph may make you believe that this week was exhausting, challenging, and gruesome, there were so many more positive aspects!  The events, the rehearsals, and the relationships we made were all amazing!  It’s hard to know where to begin to tell about a week this intense, so from the beginning…

At orientation we were able to meet other girls and go through our very first (of many that week) interviews with the camera!  Right away, all of us girls were connected and realized that aside from the obvious similarities, we shared some pretty ironic things.  At check-in we were given what became known to be called “Dolly” Duffles.  Dolly is a duffle bag that was filled with free gifts, from skin care, to CDs, to lip gloss, jewelry, books, and even food!  Each girl receives a duffle bag with her state name and a monogrammed crown.  After check-in and the camera interview, I was able to move on to IMG_5101one of my favorite events of the whole week—meeting Tony Bowls at the Photo shoot!!  Tony gave each and every girl and warm and personal welcome; he treated you as if you were his favorite model and his top priority for the day.  He picked out one of his amazing gowns for each girl and chose accessories as well!  My earrings were HUGE because he picked out a stunning pair, then hooked another pair to them (I thought my ears were going to slit).  I then went over to his assistant who quickly styled my hair and did my make-up for the shoot!  The photographer was very good and very friendly as well (proof that he’s so good can be found at the MAOT website)!  That night we had an awesome fashion show and a dance party with all of the girls!

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were all similar days.  We learned our production numbers: Move, Move, Shake (Lifestyle and Fitness), Mamma Mia (Production), and Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Evening Gown)!  Pam, our choreographer did an awesome job and the assistants were SO GREAT!   On Saturday night, we went to Medieval Times and had a blast!! IMG_5167Between eating with our hands and the handsome yellow knight we were all (including the moms) crushing over, there were so many memories made there!  Sunday night was Planet Hollywood, where we ate great food and had some fun with the DJ!  On Monday night we received Snuggies and had a Teen Choice Award Watch Party!

The rest of the week flew by, Preliminaries started on Tuesday night and from then on, it was a blur!  I felt so privileged and honored IMG_1180_1to represent Missouri at Miss America Outstanding Teen!  I was able to minister and become great friends with so many girls there!  In addition to all of the gifts IMG_5221and memories we got, God blessed me with the Scholastic Excellence Award, with that I won a full ride to Auburn University, and He also blessed me with a full ride to Troy University for my GPA and ACT score!  This week was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I come home from it knowing that God has an amazing plan for me that exceeds even my high expectations, just as He does for you!  I have absolutely no regrets, only thanks!  Thanks you Missouri for allowing me to represent you and carry your flag with pride!

May the Lord bless you as He has me,

Lauren McCreight, Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen 2009
