Savannah Middle School

On Friday, my Right Decisions, Right Now program took me to Savannah Middle School.  I was able to speak to 4 different groups of students on making good choices, not smoking, and goal setting.  Thank you to the Girls Academy for the wonderful lunch session, I had a great time meeting everyone.

After leaving the middle school, I was on Live at 5, on KQ2 News.  KQ2 is based in St. Joe, MO and is the local news station that reaches out to several counties.  I was joined by local titleholders, Darbi Furman, Trisha Deen, and Kaylee Koranda speaking out on the Miss Missouri organization and the new preliminary, Midland Empire.  I was also on the 6:00 news for my day at Savannah Middle school and my job in the Right Decisions, Right Now program.

What a fun filled afternoon!!

Fun News!!

My first duet ever was at the Miss Gateway pageant with Jason Yeager.  Jason was on this past season of American Idol where he was in the top 10 male finalists.  This was something very special for me to meet someone who is so talented and have the opportunity to perform with.  And guess what… we made You Tube!!  One of his many fan club members took this video of our performance and put it on You Tube.  Thought you all would enjoy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz4J-Xapcek

You can check out more on Jason at: http://www.myspace.com/jason_yeager and while you’re there, get a sneak peek of the new Christmas album.  His CD release party will be November 16th at 3pm at the Grand Village in Branson, MO!

Red Ribbon Week

For the past three days, I spoke to four different schools in Mexico, MO.  The program Right Decisions, Right Now fit in perfectly with the schools Red Ribbon Week.  I was able to speak to all ages of children, reaching out to the students on an anti-smoking and drug campaign.  The students shared their stories about what they had learned during Red Ribbon week and their pledge to be Drug Free.

Miss Gateway Prelims

Saturday was a great night yet bittersweet.  The Miss Gateway to the West and Gateway St. Louis pageant was this weekend at the DeSmet Jesuit High School.  We had a wonderful turn out, great pageant contestants and wonderful entertainment.  Congratulations to Lindsey Rich and Ashley Heath-Miss Gateway titleholders 2008!

I had the pleasure of getting to know and work with Jason Yeager (top 20 at American Idol), Andrew Cook (American Idol winner David Cook’s brother) and of course my 3 sisters queens, Tara, Sydnee and Stephanie.

A BIG thank you to the Gateway board and directors Gary and Stef.  What you have taught me over the past year, I will carry with me throughout life.  You have always believed in me, encouraged me to be the best me I can be, and to keep my determination.  I will never forget the time I spent with you this past year and the memories I have made.

XOXO

Boys and Girls Club

On Friday,  I visited the Boys and Girls club in Jefferson City.  This is where I held my first Right Decisions, Right Now program for a group of middle school aged children.  They were very interested in learning about me and the program, and getting to hang out with me after the presentation.

The second half of my visit was with the younger students, all in elementary school or younger.  I was able to take pictures with the boys and girls and sign autographs.  We even had time for a little dance party and games.

Thank you to the Boys and Girls club and its volunteers for inviting me into your organization.

Carving Pumpkins

My little sister Macalia and I spent yesterday carving pumpkins.  Macalia is my nine year old little sister with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.  We meet once a week and have a different activity each time.
The Big Brothers, Big Sisters program is my personal platform as Miss Missouri.  This is a nationwide volunteer program in which I am very passionate about.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States.  They have been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people.  Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country - including yours.  For more on this and ways you can become involved please visit:  www.bbbs.org

USO Troops

Saturday, Sydnee and I had the privilege to visit the USO Troops.  This was such a neat experience meeting the men and women who serve our country and who are so proud and passionate about their jobs.  The USO building was filled with movies, game rooms, internet, and dining, and everything in this place is donated.
The soldiers come to relax and have a home away from home.

The efforts and charisma these men put into our country and lives does not go unnoticed, and we thank you very much!!

After our visit, we left for our radio interview in Waynesville.  This was great sharing our story and pageant experience with the listeners.  Thank you to Mrs. Rutledge for organizing these events for us.

XOXO
