April 28, 2006 This weekend was the 1st Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Marshfield. On Friday, Stacie gave the Welcome to a program honoring Famous Missourians – in attendance were Mickey Carroll (of St. Louis), a munchkin from The Wizard of Oz, and Betty Lynn (of Kansas City), who played Thelma Lou in The Andy Griffith Show. In addition, relatives and families of 26 American Presidents were in attendance for the dedication of the National First Families Library and Museum. Presenters were James Auchincloss, Jackie Kennedy’s half brother, and Devon Nixon, Richard Nixon’s nephew. For more information about this festival visit www.cherryblossomfest.com ! |

April 26, 2006 Wow – these past few days have been full of stories! I spent much of last week rehearsing for the Variety Telethon Fashion Show in St. Louis, which was televised live on Saturday night on KMOV-TV Channel 4. Thanks to all who stayed up late to watch my debut around midnight! Earlier in the evening, my mom and I were privileged to attend the fabulous cocktail reception, sit-down dinner and show at the Chase Park Plaza – what a hotel, and what an EVENT! Dinner was delicious, and my mom especially enjoyed the live musical performance by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. of the 5th Dimension. I got done with the Telethon event around 1:00 a.m. and was up at 4:30 a.m. to catch a very, very early flight to Philadelphia. I landed in Philly and wouldn’t you know – they left my luggage in St. Louis!! Apparently, the plane was too heavy so they decided to leave some baggage behind. Unfortunately, it was my only bag and held all my clothes, shoes, etc. Luckily I had carried on my crown, sash, and make-up, and my friend, Kim, drove in to the city without hesitation to bring me a few outfits and shoes to choose from and a curling iron. Without her, I would have shown up to my business casual event in sweats! I finally got my bag on Monday night… On Monday, I took the train to New York City with Kim for shopping and a dance class – still wearing Kim’s clothes and shoes. We also had a wonderful dinner at Carmine’s, an amazing family-style Italian restaurant right off of Times Square. I flew back this morning and am back in Kansas City, ready for more appearances over the next 3 days! Best wishes, Stacie |

April 16, 2006 I now have less than 2 months remaining of my year of service, and I am still keeping busy, traveling across our state, and preparing for the great show that we are going to put on once again this summer in Mexico at the 2006 Miss Missouri Pageant! Thank you to Doug & Mandy Spieker for hosting my visit to Knob Noster this past week! I also had a great time this weekend in St. Louis - they put me up in the Chase Park Plaza on Friday night before the parade on Saturday. I was in a suite, which was more like an apartment fit for the President!! It was magnificent, and I can't wait to go back again this weekend. I will be in the live, televised Variety Telethon Fashion Show this Saturday night - be sure to check it out if you're in the viewing area and donate to this great cause! I will be leaving very, very early Sunday morning after the Telethon to fly to Philadelphia for an appearance at the CoreNet Marketing Event. I will then be spending a few days visiting with my good friend from dance, Kim Rogers. The dance costume I wore at Miss Missouri and Miss America actually belongs to Kim, and after attending the Miss America Pageant this January she was inspired to compete in her home state. She is now the reigning Miss Keystone 2006 and will go on to compete for the title of Miss Pennsylvania in July!! We'll be taking the train to New York City one day to shop next week, and our moms will be coming along with us, also. It should be a blast! I hope everyone had a very Happy Easter weekend. Keep in touch, and enjoy this beautiful weather! Stacie |

March 19, 2006 It is just 12 days until Miss Missouri Orientation! It feels like just yesterday that I was sitting at orientation imagining what it would be like to be Miss Missouri J Congratulations to ALL 31 of our 2006 local titleholders!!! Ladies – I can’t wait to see you all on April 1st, and be sure to email me if you need anything or have questions: Stacie@missmissouri.org. The month of March hasn’t given me many days off, but I did have a chance to go ice skating yesterday at Crown Center in Kansas City. Here’s a picture of me pretending to know how to spin! I’ve also been watching college basketball any chance I can get, but my bracket doesn’t look too hot after this weekend. I’m not sure many people know this, but I am still giving private dance lessons to three students at the studio I used to teach at in Kirksville. They have their first competition in St. Louis next weekend! Stay safe in this crazy spring weather - Until next time, Stacie |

March 6, 2006 I have finally found a moment to write!! Although I can’t point to the exact moment in time when there was suddenly not enough hours in the day for me, you can see from my schedule that this has become the case! I am busier than ever and absolutely loving every second of every opportunity that comes my way. I have grown so much since last June, and I still have over 3 months of service remaining in my year. I cannot wait to see what they bring! I regret that I was unable to take pictures during my visit to Fort Leonard Wood last Monday. Instead, I will paint you a mental picture of my experience… I awoke at 4 a.m. to curl my ponytail and put on work out clothes, whereupon I was picked up at 4:45 and taken to the Army Post. By 5:30 a.m. I was doing warm-up exercises and sprints with soldiers in their 6th week of basic training – yes, this was all outside, and it was both dark and cold. We then took off on a 2-mile run, and I am so proud to say that not only did I keep up, but it was a rather pleasant run! I must send out a Thank You to Lieutenant Sovocool, who not only ran with me but loaned me a hat when I had forgotten mine. I then ate an Army breakfast in the cafeteria and went to the local radio station to appear on the morning show. After returning to the Post I was lucky enough to have a 3-hour private tour of Fort Leonard Wood, which is really so beautiful with its rivers, bluffs, and open ranges. I learned SO much, and I have such an enhanced appreciation for our servicemen and women. It was a wonderfully unique experience, and I wanted to be sure and share it with all of you. I will be back again in May for their drown proofing program, but the point of this visit was for me to learn about and experience their comprehensive fitness program, right in line with my platform. This past Friday I was a judge at the Mr. Tiger Pageant at Lee’s Summit High School – yet another entertaining experience! Joe Vick, a hip-hop dancer, walked away with the esteemed title. I also spent Friday morning at Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City speaking to the Introductory Speech Classes. I presented to them for an entire class period about public speaking and interpersonal communication skills – I may not be an expert, but I sure do have a lot of advice to share after my experiences these past months. Orientation is just a month away, and I can’t wait to see everyone! I would just like to remind our 2006 local titleholders and all other Miss Missouri hopefuls to feel free to email me with any questions you may have or simply to talk. Spring is right around the corner…get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! Love, Stacie |
