August 16, 2005 Hi! What a busy August this has been so far, and I am loving every minute of it! Last week was spent primarily in the St. Louis area, and I want to give a special thanks to Bree, Kim, and Steve for opening their homes to me during my stay. Bree and Kim both took me shopping, and I enjoyed getting to know my way around St. Louis. I also visited Phil at the Philip Johnson Salon for my first cut and color, and I love it! Thank you, Phil, for your vision and generosity! A highlight of my week was getting to know the young ladies at the PAVE Camp, as described in my Travelogue. It was a wonderful experience in which I got to share my message while learning a lot from the girls as well. If any of you are reading this – Hi and keep in touch! It was especially neat to perform for them with the Missouri Girls, as they were a great audience and I think the MO Girls put on the best show in the state J I also had a great time at Nordstrom’s. I got to meet a lot of neat kids and promote the Little Sister and Outstanding Teen Programs. They definitely gave me the star treatment there, complete with a big, red, “queen” chair to sit in! Tomorrow morning I leave for Orlando to attend the inaugural Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant. I went to Airen’s send-off party and can’t wait to get there to cheer her on. There should also be approximately 20 Miss contestants attending, and I know it will be so special to meet them before Miss America in January. Best of luck, Airen! I am really enjoying and savoring every second of this year. It has been two months, and I have already put over 4,000 miles on my car! This job keeps me on the edge of my seat, always anticipating my next appearance and the opportunity to travel, meet new people, and challenge myself to be the best representative I can be! Good luck to all who will be going back to school this fall, and I’ll write again next week - Love, Stacie |

July 27, 2005 Hello Again! I hope everyone is keeping cool in this very warm July weather! I am back in Liberty with my parents for a few days before heading out on the road again. Last week was so much fun and one of my busiest weeks yet. I started out in Eldon on Monday where I stayed with Ashley Hickey and her family. You can read all about my adventures there in my Travelogue. They put on a wonderfully organized show that was so much fun for the young women involved, as well as myself. Ashley and I had a great time hanging out, and we even got up at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to walk and do Pilates with her weekly group! I think we were both pretty tired, but I am always refreshed by a nice workout. By Tuesday afternoon it was off to Mexico for my first Miss Missouri Board Meeting. For all the contestants who may remember, we had that delicious seafood pasta bar at the Country Club – Mmm, mmm! Although the meeting ended up a little on the long side, at 3 hours, it really gave me a more unique appreciation for all the planning, hard work, and love that goes in to creating amazing opportunities for young women. Thank you Miss Missouri Board – you are the best! Wednesday was what I dubbed “Sponsor Day” with Mama Pat (Gruber). We were out all morning and afternoon, on what felt like to us as the hottest day of the summer, giving thanks and autographing photos for all the great sponsors in Mexico who help make Miss Missouri week possible. I had a great time with Pat and it was a fantastic opportunity for me to get to know Mexico and its friendly people even better. Thursday night I attended another meeting, this time for the Miss Columbia Board. It was fun to catch up with them, and they are so supportive of me and all the goals I have made for this year. This all brings me to Friday! I am very involved in the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Health, and their Shape-Up Missouri program is a strong component of my platform issue. I attended their meeting at the brand-new Mizzou Rec Center and got the full tour. This $50,000,000 facility is state-of-the-art, complete with personal DVD-players for each cardio machine, and just about had me working out in my dress and 4-inch heels! Later that evening I attended the Show-Me State Games’ festivities, the largest State Games in the nation, which you can also read about in the Travelogue. It was quite exciting to see Mike Jones’ Superbowl ring, but I joked with him if my crown were all diamonds I’d have one up on him – ha! It was really special for me to be a part of a ceremony that brought so many kids and families together to celebrate fitness, sports, and friendship. The show was full of entertainment, and those Mid-MO Highsteppers had me wishing I was on the floor dancing with them! A special thank you to Gayla and Clark at the Governor’s Council for escorting me that evening and making me feel welcome – I look forward to the November meeting. Until next time, have a fantastic week and stay cool! Love, Stacie |

July 9, 2005 I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend! After a stay in Kirksville for their Independence Day Celebration I headed back to Mexico where I have spent the last week. On Tuesday I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at the Mexico Kiwanis Meeting, where I thanked them for their continued support of this program and for the delicious meal they so graciously serve to the contestants each year. It is so much fun staying with my host family, Jim and Judy Dye. Each Miss Missouri is so lucky to have them in their life, for they open up their home and their hearts with unconditional love. I spent the week getting to know Mexico better, exercising, and writing - of course - thank you notes! J This week we received my official autograph photos, and I also made plans to travel to Orlando in August to support Airen as she competes for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen! On Friday I spent a fun-filled day at Smithton Middle School in Columbia. A huge thank you to Principal Hogan and Newton Learning for having me! What a learning experience the day turned out to be. Smithton is by far the largest school I have visited yet with over 450 students, and when I visited their lunch periods there were 450+ students all who wanted Miss Missouri’s autograph, plus one for their mom, brother, and best friend. I signed a pair of jeans, a jersey, shoes, 2 lunch boxes, numerous arms and even had a request to sign a cell phone, not to mention more than 1 marriage proposal! The high point of the day came when as the students were walking to their buses they all got so excited to have a signed photo that 2 teachers had to page the principal for security – hahaha! I really had a blast – the kids’ excitement truly demonstrated to me the amazing opportunity I have been given to connect with students across this state as a role model and leave them with more knowledge, motivation, and an increased desire to make healthy choices. I thank the students of Smithton for their energy and friendship and Ms. McCarty’s classes for their receptiveness to my message and interest in health. On a personal note, I have finally received my certificate in the mail and am officially certified as a Health Educator, otherwise known as a CHES! It is hard to believe already a month has passed since my reign began on the Miss Missouri stage, and I am really looking forward to my upcoming events. I hope all of you continue to have a fun and safe summer, and please keep in touch! With Love, Stacie |
